I have concluded that to be a successful Marketplace Minister is “Almost Impossible”.  While chatting with my pastor and teacher from a few years back this week, he convinced me that that average and even exceptional Christian person in the business world has decisions to make every day that require biblical principle understanding and discipline far beyond their understanding and practices. Then to top things off, the pressures we are all under can be overwhelming to say the least.  Your personal condition can easily put you into a position where  the fear of failure, hopelessness  and despair can actually deceive you into compromising your christian standards.

Then we have to face  the forever striving demonic influences urging us to follow the world’s unscrupulous  business standards rather than our Creator’s direction for our decision making.  In this day and age, we are so inundated with the world’s acceptance of winning at whatever the cost, whoever has the most is the best, only the strong survive and a plethora of similar cliches that we have become a society accepting of greed, deceit and entitlement rewards.  “If it feels good, do it”, generally sums it all up.  Pretty bleak picture eh?

About now you may be picturing someone in your mind that you feel fits this description to the tee.  Well that is exactly the what the world would do also.  All too often we judge others based on our own self approved standards assuming we are without sin.  The question we need to ask ourselves is “what makes our own personal standard the gospel”?  Are we handling daily business decisions with christian biblical principles or have we perfected a self application test of our own description and decided we have all the right answers?  This precarious approach to your business and example you portray can become the very wedge of negativity that prevents one lost soul from desiring to be a follower of Christ.  It can also be why your business is not being blessed.

Yes it is almost impossible to be the perfect witness for Christ in the Marketplace but I have some good news for you.  God doesn’t expect you to be perfect nor hold you for ransom if your not.  He expects you to strive for perfection which means diligently learn and understand His ways and precepts and then go live them to the very best of your ability.  That is the kind of example that impresses the lost to something that has hope and promise for their earthly lives and eternal destiny.

The Marketplace holds the most potential opportunity to reach the lost than any one place left in the world but not without disciplers who know who they are in Christ and can share and demonstrate that truth for others in need.  I encourage you this very day to study the word and how to apply it to your daily work responsibilities.  The world renowned “Gandhi” once said, “I like your Christ.  I don’t like your Christians.  They are so unlike their Leader”.  What a sad refrain of us and embarrassment for our Lord.  Today is the day for you to set your mind upon the fact that it is almost possible not impossible to be the Marketplace minister you were called to be and reach for the mark for the higher calling in Christ Jesus.  Will you make an error once in a while?  Yes,  and actually be forgiven if necessary.  What is important is that we learn from our mistakes and set about learning to correct it the biblical way so that our God gets the honor and glory He deserves.
