Are you a networker?

Do you do social networking? Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Yahooo groups??

Do you attend your local BNI group? I visited a group this week and there were over 70 people there. It is an awesome group. They only allow one type of business per group. Each person in the group then works as a referrer for your business. It is a great group and this year they have generated over 3 million in sales for there group.

Networking is a very powerful form of word of mouth advertising. If you are not doing it, check out some of the these ideas.

I just returned from a two week teaching and ministering trip to Poland and Ukraine.  I went with a team of 4 marketplace leaders, ministers and teachers who are good friends of mine from the US and Denmark.  John Garfield was our designated leader with the teaching theme of “Releasing Kings”, which is also the title of his very excellent book.

John uses biblical scripture to encourage and evoke your hearts desire for life to become a reality for you.  A most amazing transition takes place in the hearts, minds and faces of believers when they realize they have God’s blessings to seek their hearts desire and that all things are possible with God. But the miracle making ingredient to the formula is to love people.  John proved that when he taught by loving the people every chance he got.  Most important however was that he really meant it.  People sensed it and reacted positively.

Combining your Divine call, your hearts desire and your ministry gifting all into one Godly, supernatural package empowers one to accomplish feats that here to for never even entered their minds.  I speak not of a New Age inner self realization of hidden energies and karma but of a Holy Spirit filled weapon of righteousness and love capable of doing all things in Christ Jesus.

The conference objective as well as the ultimate purpose for “Releasing Kings”, is to Have Fun.  Make Money.  Love People!  That’s exactly what we did,  except make money this time.  We did however encourage the attendees to use their dreams, gifts and calling to accomplish those three objectives while teaching them the fundamentals of doing business by biblical Kingdom principles in their families, the Marketplace, and in their churches.

The response after a few days of teaching and praying for people resulted in nearly 40 new salvations and numerous people deciding for the first times in their lives to pursue their business dreams.  We taught on attitude, business planning, sales, marketing, employee employer relations and finances required to start and run a successful business.

As usual while ministering to these success hungry saints, many signs and wonders of healing and deliverance followed those who believed just as the Mark wrote in his Gospel chapter 16, verses 15-18.  I can testify that I even prayed a serious sinus infection attack off myself by confessing and believing that scripture while on my way back on a 13 hour plane ride to the USA.

I come back and recollect and marvel at the faith and willingness those people have to believe for a better life in Jesus.  They have the faith to trust and try as the men of God teach and preach and great things are a result.  Not because of the men of God for sure, but for the humility, honor and obedience they offer the teacher as God’s prophet and therefore they receive a prophets reward.

We anxiously look forward to our return to those lands and see once more what God has in store for those who love Him for “eye has not seen, ear has not heard nor heart know the things which God has prepared for those that love Him.

BEGIN, BELIEVE, COMMEND, DECIDE, listen, PERSIST, plan, PREPARE, SAVE, SMILE, STUDY, work

I have often been asked, and have asked myself, what the definition of SUCCESS was.  As you might expect, the answers are as varied as the numerous business philosophies professed among the many self proclaimed authorities.  With that I must be careful to say that this simple BLUEPRINT FOR SUCCESS was not my creation but rather a piece of my anonymous collection over the years.  I hope it agrees with your spirit and inspires you as it does me.

BELIEVE while others are doubting.

PLAN while others are playing.

STUDY while others are sleeping.

DECIDE while others are delaying

PREPARE while others are daydreaming.

BEGIN while others are procrastinating.

WORK while others are wishing.

SAVE while others are wasting.

LISTEN while others are talking.

SMILE while others are pouting.

COMMEND while others are criticizing.

PERSIST while others are quitting.

“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him” Col. 3:17

LEADERSHIP KEYS

Although this year’s NCAA Basketball Tournament final was contended by a perennial favorite Duke the sentimental favorite and first time ever in the finals competitor, was Butler University from Indianapolis, Indiana right where the final was being played.  Without a doubt it was one of the best and most exciting  final NCAA tournament games ever played.  The veteran Duke Blue Devils came out victorious by only two points.

Regardless of the outcome and excitement of this great final game, what was an even more impressive  was the way that Butler coach Brad Stevens led his young team on this once in a lifetime sojourn.  If you actually watched this contest you may have caught a look at this 33 year old baby faced coach that could have just as easily passed for one of his players he looked so young.  As I watched and studied this young challenger he reminded me a great deal of David as he prepared to fight Goliath, the Philistine giant in the Old Testament.  He too was very young in age and appearance, quiet and handsome and a warrior.

Well there were two distinct leadership qualities I as well as many thousands of fans saw this young coach exemplify.  One was very obvious to the observers and that was his calm, controlled demeanor.  That calm, focused example was reflected in each one of his players as well.  He had spent hours and hours with these young men drilling basketball technics and strategies into them while all the time, showing the calm, disciplined focus needed to perfect his craft and mentor others.  Those young men one day will recall just how important that principle from basketball is in everyday life as we all are constantly facing confusing, scary and challenging circumstances.  The ability to hold our thoughts captive, be patient and avoid confusion will help develope a quality decision making mind that will serve them well in years to come.

The other principle I recognized was one that was actually verbalized by his players.  When asked what the players thought their coach’s strongest attribute was they responded that “coach always had a plan”.  Then they said, “and then he always has a backup plan for that and another backup plan for that”, and everyone knows those plans backwards and forewards when called upon us to use them.

There is simple but great wisdom in understanding the value of a plan and just as importantly, putting the plans into action.  There is an old cliche , “If you don’t know where you are going, you will never know when you get there” that explains in plumb dumb simple English the importance of a plan.  This principle is just as important to an individual as a leader of many.  After all, as an individual you lead yourself!  But as a leader, you must have the confidence of the team in order to get the commitment from all participants and ultimately accomplish your goals and succeed.

Just as in a basketball game, you may not always win that particular  game but you are developing yourself and improving for the next time.  Life is no different.  It is a marathon of opportunities in which you train,  pace yourself, while all the time you are gaining invaluable experience that will pay dividends to you in the long run.  Having a leader who is calm, disciplined, focused and with a definite plan towards success not only creates a favorable environment for success but fulfills one of the great responsibilities of a good leader and that is to be an example for developing future leaders.  Mentoring those that have the calling and ability to lead others someday is also a responsibility that a good leader must accept.

These leadership skills are not inherited, they are learned and earned.  Don’t accept the lie that you cannot be a good leader and instead continue to compare yourself to those more noted and famous leaders around you convincing yourself you can’t do that.  You can become a good leader and you can start by taking these characteristics I have been mentioning above and begin to put them into your every day lifestyle.  Start with a game plan for whatever it is you are challenged to accomplish, put a workable plan together to reach your goals.  Then calmly but with focus, begin a disciplined attack on that objective.  Be sure and have a backup plan in case your timing is off.  Lastly, don’t be afraid to fail.  Be afraid that you won’t use the experience as a learning tool rather than an excuse for trying again.

Kingdom Business Journal and its writers are dedicated to helping you along this pathway and we freely offer our services to assist you as best we can.  Remember “the essence of success is not always being number one, but to strive for excellence”.

THE ESSENCE OF COMPETITION

competition in business, excellence, fear of failure, number one, olympics, talents and gifts

Most everyone I know has a competitive streak in them.  For some,  winning isn’t everything, it’s the only thing.  Then for others, winning is perhaps at best a desire but definitely not the main objective of competition.

We most often associate competition in sports but in many facets of life one can feel the tingling sensation that is brought about as we strive to be the best.  Unfortunately competition can sometimes draw the worst out of people as well when jealousy and pride rear their ugly heads to distort the good healthy, friendly spirit of the contest.

This week, as the Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada begin, the ultimate example of competition is witnessed by us all as athletes from around the world have but this one opportunity to prove their supremacy in each of the individual contests.  It is always an exciting experience and the spectacle is full of beautiful pagentry to watch by us all.  But you can bet for sure that the participants are experiencing physical and emotional feelings that very few people ever will.  The pressure of this moment is a study of its own in psychological warefare and self confidence.

Business and sports are much alike in many ways but certainly the competitive aspect overshadows the other ways by far.  From the small town corner groceries to the global tech  and merchandise markets, competition energizes the participants, stimulates creativity and ultimately results in the greatest discoveries and inventions the mind can comprehend.

Watching the Olympics reminds me of a comment I heard many Olympics ago from and American cross country skiing competitor named Koch.  He was the odds on favorite to win 2 or 3 gold medals for the USA and consequently had a great deal of press following him every step of the way as he finished each race.  As circumstances sometimes happen, he finished the first race and didn’t medal.  When interviewed and asked why  he failed to win, he simply stated with a smile that he skiied the best he could that day but it  just wasn’t good enough to win a medal.  He none-the-less, was proud of his performance.

The next day another competition followed that Mr. Koch was favored to win and once again he failed to even medal.  The press was getting hungry for a story of unfair circumstance or cheating by the opponents that kept our man from winning.  But Mr. Koch explained once again that he felt he really gave it his best but just was out scored that day by someone better.

Finally the last competitive opportunity to win gold came about and the pressure was felt by the contestants and us viewers also.  The news media was focused on the race and a grueling one it was.  All throughout the heat, cameras stayed glued on Mr. Koch and his close competitors while multi-lingual dialog on their progress from the press corps was flowing from every news tent on property.

Finally the race was over.  Mr. Koch finished but did not win the gold medal in the race and consequently none of his events.  He continued to be inundated with questions as to why he failed to win gold when finally he stopped all inquiries with this one simple statement.  He said, “I did the best I could every race I was in.”  “The essence of competition isn’t always to be number one, but to strive for excellence.”  That is what I did!

In Daniel 6:3, Daniel distinguished himself above governors and satraps because of an “excellent spirit was in him.”  Jesus Himself urged us in Matthew 25:14-29 to recognize and use our talents and gifts or or loose them.  He didn’t say you had to be number one or loose them.  He expects us to develop them and use them for His honor and glory.  Think of it as His way of using you for ministry.

So today I release you from an fear of failure and expectation, and say to you in Jesus name.   “The essence of competition isn’t that you need to be number one,  but to always strive for excellence in all you do and you will receive  your just reward on earth and in heaven.

apostle, consultant, Entrepreneur, evangelist, gifts of the acscended Christ, instructor, Manager, pastor, prophet, ROI, teacher

Last night I had the privilege to speak at a Wednesday night ministry group about the Kingdom Business Journal and to explain the origin and purpose of our ministry.  The following statement I made sparked considerable interest, some questions and plenty of discussion so I thought I would share it with you too.

I mentioned that I received this revelation while teaching Kingdom Business Principles in Ukraine with my brother David Tinney to various christian groups throughout that country.  Paul wrote in Eph.4:11-12 that “He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying the body of Christ.”  Versus 13-16 further explain the purpose which is to disciple and educate and teach truth to the believers so they are not deceived.

What I am going to submit to you to think about today is just the first layer of teaching of this portion of scripture.  There is much more for another day.  Here is the premise I conclude from this reading.  Jesus loved teaching with metaphors, parables and word pictures to better understand the spiritual and practical comparison of His Kingdom Principles.  His invite for us was to learn, practice and teach His Kingdom’s principles on earth as foundation for living now and preparing  us to rule and reign with Him in the millennium and eternity.

When Jesus ascended into heaven after His resurrection, He left with us these gifts referred to as the “Gifts of the Ascended Christ” referred to in Eph.4:11.  In our natural understanding I think most of us interpret this writing to mean He left a few key spiritual jobs here on earth for ordained ministers in the pulpit to assume in their churches.  I happen to believe that.  But I found this interpretation to be very limiting of Christ’s army of public ministers of which all the rest of us are,  if we believe the command we have of the Great Commission.

There is no mention of any building or meeting place in this scripture but perhaps some believe it is implied.  Truth is, the definition of “church” to Jesus was His people, not the houses and caves they met in in the first century.  I believe Jesus once again in His infinite wisdom,  left us special, valuable gifts that included spiritual and practical connotation so that we  could all minister the Gospel of the Kingdom throughout the world.  Let me be comparatively specific?

SPIRITUAL GIFTINGS:  Clergy

Apostles  =  Visionaries for the church who often traveled the countryside planting new churches, getting the local leadership on track with the vision for the Church (people).

Prophets  =  Were the spiritual advisers for the Apostles (leaders) of the churches who would clarify, confirm and emphasis the word of God.

Evangelists  =  Traveled these same areas of the country and at home, proclaiming the saving grace and salvation of Jesus Christ.

Pastors  =  Shepherded the local church attendees ( flock) and ministered with compassion and protection to their people

Teachers  =  Those trained and learned in the Word were the interpreters for the Way and discipled the flocks towards their maturity.

PRACTICAL GIFTINGS:  (everyone who is not a paid minister in the pulpit)

Apostle  =  The visionary entrepreneur business owner who establishes businesses through out his customer demographic and directs the vision of his company.

Prophet  =  The company consultant or upper management persons consulted for all important matters of the  business and who influences the business owner with researched understanding  that helps guide appropriate company decision making.

Evangelist  =  Every believer in the workplace can and should be an evangelist.  That is God’s command.

Pastor  =  Functions as a manager over departments and groups to make sure the leaders plans are carried out as instructed and successfully but always mindful of the needs of his people.

Teacher  =  Is the role of one who’s wisdom, experience and learning is utilized to assure productivity, efficiency resulting in ROI to the company.

So……. where do you fall into this schematic?  May I suggest that all of us share in the Ascended Gifts of Christ in one way or another.  You don’t have to be in the pulpit or full time ministry to fulfill the calling  God has put in your heart.  You can now accept the role of life you are currently in and be used greatly if you want to be.  And there is no better place of opportunity than your workplace.  So once again I say…. go use your gifts to spread the Good News,  but only use words when you have to!

I attended a seminar about Achieving your business goals last night. It was good.

They had several speakers.

Deb Payne Lighthouse Coaching – Business and Life Coach.  She had a very light and fun talk about stretching you and helping you to go to the next level.

James Lee Vann– Ensign Technologies LLC.  James did a great job explaining the different kinds of social media, how it came about and gave examples of how to use it.  I believe he is going to do a class on it because there was a lot of interest.

Marlene Chism – Corporate trainer and Author of, “Success is a Given”.  Marlene did a great job talking about the principles of her new book and how to  stop the  drama.  Drama is any obstacle to your peace and prosperity.

Shelly Rice – Chocolate Blues and Business.  Shelly put this event together and did a great job.  Thanks friend.  You really should check out her events they are a good source of networking and lots of fun.

So, I got to do some networking and learn some new ideas about goal setting and marketing.   Best yet, I got to spend the night with my wife who came with me.  Rich and Vana Forster also attended and afterwards we went for coffee and got caught up.

Made a long day, but it was good!
