What is your plan for today?

Do you have a plan for the day?

When you plan your day don’t just fit all the to-do’s and appointments in.  Plan your day according to your purpose.  BE ON-PURPOSE.  Being on-purpose is all about being balanced.  Kevin McCarthy’s book, The On-Purpose Person, helped me be more balanced.  Life is about priorities, not appointments and a to-do list.

I use the Franklin planner system.  I don’t function well without it!

It is a simple concept.  You have a 2 page layout that list your appointments for the day. The day is broken down into the hour and 15 minutes segments.  There is a Prioritized Daily Task List that allows you to list the task and put them in order.  First, list priorities by A, B, C, and so on. Then you list A1, A2, A3. Even if you are interrupted, you can still finish before you move on. If you are multi-tasking, it allows you to keep focus.  On the other side of is a daily Notes which allows you to make notes about important information or events.

It is a great system.

I have given you some great resources, but where do you start?  My suggestion is to start your day by taking 15 minutes and plan your day.

1. Do I have appointments?  If so, what times?

2. Do I have any tasks that need to be done?

3. Prioritize the tasks.

Remember not to get caught up in the stuff of life.  Reflect on your day and see if it lines up with your life goals and your purpose.

“Above all be of single aim; have a legitimate and useful purpose, and devote yourself unreservedly to it.”

“When you own a business, It owns you”!

I heard my dad say this once when I was little.  We grew up in a family business.  My grandfather had a complete automotive repair center and did everything from auto mechanics, auto body, frame straightening, alignments, radiators, and he had 40 wreckers.  My dad worked for Grandpa for years and assumed that one day he would take over the business. WRONG!  Grandpa came in one day and announced on a Friday that the new owner would be in on Monday; THAT IS ANOTHER STORY!

My dad started his own business of the same kind, on a much smaller scale.  We built a shop and even built our own wrecker.  It was fun growing up riding in a wrecker.  Unfortunately, my dad was always working.  We had a contract with the sheriff’s department and were on call 24 hours a day.  He was always working or sleeping.  I now have my own businesses and I can relate.  I spend a lot of hours working on the website, blog, we are also in the middle of a Internet marketing promotion,  or I am working on my other business.  It is a lot of work!

Earlier today my eldest daughter sat on my lap and put her arm around me and asked, “Can you not work Saturday and just spend the day playing with us”? It really made me stop and think! Am I following in my dads footsteps?

DO YOU OWN A BUSINESS, OR DOES IT OWN YOU?
