I have two snipits of encouragement for you business owners who are scratching your heads or working on controlling your blood pressure regarding your business.  The end of the year business challenges are enormous and the forethought and confidence to plan intelligently for the next year is at times overwhelming, especially if this hasn’t been a banner year for you.  I know from experience.

Well I don’t believe your alone with these concerns.  Then you may hear the cliche that says “have faith and hang in there, it’s gonna be allright”, and that isn’t the most reassuring encouragement either.  Our human minds are so fragile because our hearts are fragile.  Scripture says where your treasure is there your heart is also.  Let me suggest this about your treasure (your business).

Snipit one.  If it was going to be easy, everyone would be doing it and no one would make a dime.  There is a wonderful opportunity here to invite a qualified mentor or business professional and hopefully brother in Christ, who has a heart for you and what you are doing that can be of some help.  Often the forest is just too thick to see through to the trees and your vision is obscured.  A more experienced person or persons who can help you sort through the weak areas of your business can be invaluable getting you on the right track.  Humble yourself and go find them.

The second snipit is harder to swallow,  but here goes.  If your just in business to chase the dollar, you’ll probably be chasing it the rest of your life.  Success is all too often a result of passion and persistence more than anything.   I can assure you that with these two business principles, you will have a much greater chance for success.  The reason is, your heart is in it.  You see, the heart thing is so critical for every kind of work.  Whether its your business, your family life, your relationship building outside your family, it always comes back to a heart issue.  That was Jesus secret too.

Jesus had a heart and passion for what He did on earth which was to live and die for us.  His influence and teaching of those principles left lasting impressions on all His followers (employees) and thus the legacy for Christianity.  You will probably not have quite that level of  success but that type of effort will go a long way in your marketplace to help spread the gospel, and you won’t even have to use words.

So here are your two snipits.  Remember if it was easy, everyone would be doing it and you would likely not be very successful.  Second, don’t just chase the money.  Put your heart into your business and stay the course and serve people.  Paul said “I reach for the prize, for the mark of the higher calling in Christ Jesus”.  He never gave up in his quest to be the best God called him to be.  By the way, he was a tent maker in the marketplace.  Remember?

Christmas, jesus, leadership, Nativity, Racine, Racine Christian Church

This last weekend we attending a living nativity in Racine Missouri at the Racine Christian Church. It was an awesome event. Over 200 people in costume, 2 camels, donkeys, goats, and a host of angels, roman soldiers on horseback, and of course a live baby Jesus.

I though about this program and how this little Baptist church out in the country could possibly put on a program of this magnitude. I asked the pastor and he said it was God! I have to agree, but I thought that he obviously had great leadership ability.

The point of this is that over 200 people came together to serve the Lord and they had a common goal. In our businesses we need to work together toward a common goal. We need to pull together and use our teams talents and abilities and see how everone can fit into the plan in order to effectively achieve the goal.

I hope you all have a blessed Christmas and remember, JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON.

2009What will our reflection of 2009 be?

I am expecting 2009 to be a great year!   Yes we have many changes about to occur, but I am optimistic about the future.  I was talking to a friend today about this subject and we agree that 2009 will be a great year of the Lord.

Unfortunately, God uses hardships to get folks attention.  He uses times like this for great revival.

BEEN THERE AND DONE THAT!

2008 was a year of hardship for us!  Being unemployed for 7 months of the year and other things going on, God has definitely got our attention.  Praise the Lord!  We are listening to God and we have learned a lot this year.

If you or someone you know is going through or goes through any hardships in 2009, make sure you have an opportunity to pray with them and make sure that they use this time to reflect and listen.  Listen to what the Lord is trying to say to them.

I pray that you have a blessed 2009 and that it is a year of favor and victory.

Blessings!

I received a call from a client. After 16 years in business, he has to shut his doors.
I want to commend this man for calling and dealing with the situation. He has a wonderful attitude even though this will probably be the hardest thing he has ever dealt with. He told me that he knows God has a plan and if he has to start over, that is ok.
Wow!
His called blessed me because I have been where he is. 2 years ago we went through the same process. God has taken us through the storm and and we are not out yet, but God has had control the whole time.

I pray that during this trial that he can keep looking up and know that God is holding his hand and will give him peace.

God uses all things Good!

Dad(me) with my three little ones.  Just planted our little garden together.

I was listening to the radio today in my car, and a pastor really got my attention.  He was talking about as parents we are providers for our families that we sometimes sell our self and our families short.

He asked, “Would you sell your kid for $10,000.00?  What about $1,000,000.00?”  My obvious response as most parents was, “NO WAY”.  I was telling my wife about this at the dinner table and just as I said this, my 7 year old says, “WE ARE PRICELESS!”

This pastor interviewed a kid who said, that his father got up every morning at 4am to go to work and never got home before 7pm.   The son had no relationship with his Father and because of it the kid grew up as a loner.  This father sold himself for a paycheck and the kid paid for it.

Are you all work and no DAD?  I know that I was guilty of that for years.  My oldest son is now 17 and about to turn 18 in January 2009.  I hate to admit it, but the first 5 years of his life I was like the man above, and my son has paid for it.  I am truly sorry,  I have asked for forgiveness, repented, and I am spending more time with the family and trying to be a good dad.

We say we won’t sell our kids, but are we are selling ourselves— one paycheck at a time?

Fall, Frost, and Pumpkins!

Obviously, Fall is my favorite season.  I love it when the morning get cold and the leaves turn colors.  We had a pumpkin patch several years ago when we had our farm, we loved every minute of it.

This morning reminds me of the night they forecast the first frost of the year and we had about 2 acres of pumpkins on the vine not all ready for harvest.  We heard the forecast on the 10 PM news, so we went pumpkin picking.

We bundled up the kids and Laura started the hot cocoa.  We went out in our field and by the full harvest moon, picked almost 100 pumpkins.  Some were small, some were large, some were still green, some were perfect.

Pumpkins are like babies.  Not a one is the same.

People are like pumpkins before we are saved, our insides are YUCK!

Carving a pumpkin is just like getting saved.  You start by cleaning out the insides.  Scraping all that YUCK out and making it nice and clean.  Then when Jesus comes into your heart it is just like putting the candle in the pumpkin, lighting up your life.

Now, this does not make you perfect.

During the short life of a pumpkin it has to be maintained.  You have to change the candle as it melts, you have to keep it clean and then eventually, you have to throw it away

or make pumpkin pie.

Getting saved last for an eternity.

If you are a pumpkin still on the vine, let Jesus pick you, clean you up, and light up your life!

Be blessed!
